335 Water Supply Projects Completed in Helmand, Kandahar, Urozgan and Takhar Provinces
Around 335 water supply projects supported by the UNICEF 2013 contribution have been completed in Helmand, Kandahar, Urozgan and Takhar provinces. These projects will enable a growing number of families to get access to safe drinking water.
Digging of 104 shallow wells in 31 provinces of Afghanistan
In 2013, the national Ru-WatSIP with financial support of UNICEF competed the digging of 104 shallow wells in 31 provinces of Afghanistan. These projects provided for the most deprived people who live in remote villages of Afghanistan to get access to safe drinking water.
Three villages of Samangan province has been certified as Open Defecation Free (ODF)
The Open Defecation Free (ODF) verification has successfully carried out in three villages (Aqmazar Masjidi Jamay, Masjide Ahmad Jan and Masjidi Hazrat-e-Salman) of Samangan province. These three villages has also been ODF certified recently.
The ODF certificates were granted by a joint team of Rural Rehabilitation Department (RRD) director, National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) director, director of Economy, Haj wa Auqaf and the Hygiene Promotion team of Ru-WatSIP based in Kabul. The ODF certification board was also installed in the villages in the presence of media (National Radio Television, Ayena and Azadi Radio) reporters.
A total of 18 people received GIS Remote Sensing training
The Capacity Development Unit (CDU) of Ru-WatSIP with financial support of NORPLAN conducted a five days training workshop titled “GIS Remote Sensing”. In this training, a total of 18 people were attended in out of which 16 were male and two were female. The participants were from different organizations including Afghan Geological Survey (AGS), Afghan Water Supply and Sewerage Center (AWSSC), Program Coordination Unit (PCU), Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW), Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) and Ru-WatSIP.
